The Irish Standard (I.S.291) requires:

  • Visually inspect and weigh all extinguishers every year.

  • Discharge test, refill, and inspect 30% of Foam/Water Extinguishers annually.

  • Discharge test, refill, and inspect 20% of CO2/Powder Extinguishers annually.

  • Pressure test all CO2 Extinguishers after the first 10 years and every 5 years after that.

  • Train staff in the use of fire extinguishers and emergency procedures.
